AlburyCity is working in support of the NSW SES to keep the Albury community flood-safe, whilst responding to large volumes of community requests for assistance.
A combination of increased flows into the Murray River, and consistent rainfall events are seeing many areas of the Albury community impacted, with Council urging residents to be prepared, and focus on the safety of family and loved-ones during this challenging time.
AlburyCity CEO, Frank Zaknich said Council's teams are working through customer requests as quickly as possible, whilst prioritising those most in need.
"Our teams are out and about clearing fallen trees and debris, unblocking drains, closing flooded roads... working in close partnership with the SES and other emergency agencies to keep our community safe," said Mr Zaknich.
"Many in our community are being impacted by flooding, and we ask everyone to please adhere to any directions and signage in impacted areas, and to only travel around our city if absolutely necessary."
"We are expecting river levels to continue to rise, and with more rain and thunderstorms predicted it is important that we all have a flood plan, which can be completed on the SES website," Mr Zaknich explained.
"A huge thank you to the community and local response agencies for their efforts supporting each other during this time."
In heavy rain stormwater drains may not be able to cope, so there may be flash flooding that will impact roads, pathways and public spaces. Council are re-enforcing the simple message 'If it's Flooded, Forget It'.
The NSW SES should be contacted for emergency flood assistance on 132 500, and if the situation is life-threatening call 000.
