Works on a new outdoor performance space in Jan Juc's Bob Pettitt Reserve will start once restrictions have eased.
The permanent structure, which will be located to the west of the BMX track, has been designed to complement its surroundings and will have a natural amphitheatre.
The performance space, to be called 'Under the Yellow Gums Stage', will allow the community to hold small, local performances.
The project has been fully funded by the Australian Government and is being delivered in partnership with the Jan Juc community and the Surf Coast Shire Council.
"This has been a wonderful partnership project, led by the community right from the start, and I know how excited the Jan Juc Live group is to see all their hard work about to come to life," Mayor Cr Libby Stapleton said.
"'Under the Yellow Gum Stage' will be a beautiful, architecturally designed feature made of sculptured timber columns and stainless steel arches, that will complement the natural environment. It will be a space the community can enjoy for years to come," she said.
"The local arts community has long been calling for a place where locals can come together for boutique events like Christmas carols and acoustic performances, so I'm very happy that works will begin soon. This past year, in particular, has made us realise just how important events like these are in connecting us all."
Jan Juc Live member and project champion Paul Thompson said after more than three years of hard work by the committee, he was rapt that works were about to start.
"It will be great for the community to eventually come together and enjoy local entertainment while reconnecting with family, friends and neighbours," he said.
"With what everyone has gone through in 2020 - and continues to cope with - we can look forward to a variety of entertainment at the 'Under the Yellow Gums' stage."
The stage structure was designed by Zen Architects, together with Mark Trinham, Perry Mills & Associates Landscape Architects and ACNL Engineering in collaboration with community group Jan Juc Live.
Surf Coast Shire Council acknowledges the full project funding received for the stage from the Australian Government through the Community Development Grants Program ($140,000).
