The Allan Labor Government is ensuring trams continue to run smoothly and reliably for thousands of passengers travelling on Spencer and Bourke Streets, with a major maintenance blitz set to begin this week.
From Sunday, 15 to Thursday 26, February crews will undertake vital works near the intersection of Melbourne's Bourke and Spencer streets - replacing tram tracks and road surfaces, while also installing new poles and overheard wires.
Crews will work 24 hours a day to complete the works, with a full road closure of the intersection at Bourke Street and Spencer Street with detours in place for pedestrians and traffic, and service changes to Bourke Street and Spencer Street routes.
Bourke Street will remain closed between King and Spencer streets, and Spencer Street closed between Little Bourke and Little Collins. There will also be detours in place along King Street and Wurundjeri Way.
Route 86 trams will run between Bundoora RMIT and Queen Street, and Route 96 trams will operate in sections, with no trams running between Queen Street and Spencer Street. Route 30 trams will be extended to Waterfront City Docklands throughout the works.
MyTramsfer in partnership with Travellers Aid will be on site to assist passengers with accessibility needs by connecting to Stop 4 Queen Street and Stop 124 Batman Park from 6:00am to 9:00pm during works.
Yarra Trams will keep local businesses and residents informed and work with them to provide access and maintain deliveries during construction.
Passengers and road users can find out more information about the works at transport.vic.gov.au/news-and-resources/projects/bourke-and-spencer-streets-tram-track-renewals.
