According to the United Nations, 605 million people play chess regularly and about 70 percent of adults in US, UK, Germany, Russia and India played at some point in their lives.

University of Southern Queensland's Graeme Gardiner focuses his research on chess and its potential educational benefit to children. He can discuss the game's history in Australia, including its resurgence in the late 1990s.
