Wounding investigation launched after disturbance at Fairfield

Police, investigating a disturbance at Fairfield this morning which saw a man hospitalised with stab wounds, have arrested 16 people who are currently assisting with our investigations.

Police were called to Home Street around 5.20am with a report a man had been stabbed.

It will be alleged that the man was attending a party at a house nearby on Fairfield Road, when an altercation broke out between a group of people there.

The altercation spilled out onto the street and a 25-year-old Fitzgibbon man was stabbed multiple times in nearby Home Street, sustaining several puncture wounds to his abdomen.

The man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition.

Officers patrolled the area and located a knife at the rear of a different property on Fairfield Road.

Ten men and six women, aged 19-28, were arrested at the party-property and are now assisting detectives with their investigation.

Crime-scenes were declared at each of the three locations.

Police are now appealing to any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured security, iPhone or dash-camera footage in the area at the time, to come forward.

No-one else was injured and investigations continue.
