WWF: Climate Report Warns Australia

WWF-Australia

In response to today's release of the National Climate Risk Assessment, WWF-Australia's CEO Dermot O'Gorman said:

"This risk assessment sends a sobering message of the harms we all face with rising temperatures.

"It warns of severe risks to the natural environment by 2050 if we don't change our approach. Coral reefs such as those in the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo World Heritage Area are at significant risk."

"The solutions are within our grasp. A strong, science-based 2035 climate target, along with stopping approvals for coal and gas and halting deforestation, will give these ecosystems a fighting chance.

"This is a warning bell that Australia must change course and get on track to hold warming to safer levels."
