Moira Shire Council has adopted a new long-term plan to guide the future of the Yarrawonga Aerodrome.
The Yarrawonga Aerodrome Masterplan sets a clear direction for the aerodrome over the next 20 years, with a strong focus on safety, compliance and making better use of existing land and infrastructure.
Moira Shire Council Chief Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the masterplan would ensure the aerodrome continues to serve the region for years to come.
"This Masterplan gives the Yarrawonga Aerodrome a clear and practical road map for the future," Dr Emonson said.
"It strengthens the safety for users, protects surrounding airspace and supports local aviation."
The Masterplan has been shaped by feedback from aerodrome users and stakeholders. Community input played an important role in refining priorities and confirming future direction for the site.
Key initiatives outlined in the strategic document include improvements to taxiways and aircraft parking, upgrades to lighting and airfield safety and clearer safeguarding measures to prevent
incompatible development near the aerodrome. The plan also supports hangar development in a staged and orderly way.
This approach allows for growth while ensuring the aerodrome continues to operate safely and efficiently.
Importantly, the Masterplan supports the aerodrome's role in emergency response, training, tourism and local aviation businesses, reinforcing its value as a key regional asset.
"Yarrawonga Aerodrome plays a vital role in emergency services and regional connectivity. This plan ensures it remains safe, compliant and ready for future opportunities," Dr Emonson said.
