- Perth to welcome more visitors from China as China Southern Airlines extends to year-round service
- Flights operating three times weekly, bringing over 42,000 seats to WA per year
- Part of the Cook Government's economic diversification strategy to generate valuable tourism dollars for local business and support local jobs
Visitors from Western Australia's biggest tourism market will be able to travel direct to Perth year-round, following the extension of China Southern Airlines' nonstop route.
Direct flights from Guangzhou to Perth are operating three times per week, with an uplift to four times per week scheduled from 14 December 2025 to 1 March 2026, with the year-round service to deliver more than 42,000 annual inbound seats to WA.
The expansion of the service to a year-round operation is conservatively estimated to deliver up to an additional $24.7 million to the State's economy annually and create more than 250 jobs.
The year-round extension comes after the service, supported by the Cook Government through Tourism WA and secured in partnership with Perth Airport, recommenced seasonally on 29 November.
China remains WA's largest tourism market by visitor spend, with 65,000 visitors from China contributing $408 million to the State's economy in the year ending June 2025.
The year-round service expansion comes after WA recorded nation-leading growth in visitor numbers in the year ending September 2025, achieving 99.5 per cent of 2019 numbers. A total of 991,000 international guests arrived in WA in the 12 months to September 2025, up 17 per cent year-on-year.
China Southern previously operated year-round services between Guangzhou and Perth from 2011 to 2020, and recommenced seasonal flights in November 2024 over the Christmas and Chinese New Year period. The return of this year-round route marks a significant milestone for WA's tourism and trade connectivity.
Tourism WA is promoting the service and WA as a destination through cooperative marketing with China Southern as part of the Cook Government's economic diversification strategy to boost tourism, trade, and investment opportunities to support local jobs and local businesses.
The year-round service between Guangzhou and Perth is one of 20 direct international routes connecting WA to the world, reinforcing Perth's position as Australia's western gateway.
