You can have your say To Help Shape WA Play Strategy

A new survey is now open for Western Australians to have their say and help shape the WA Play Strategy. Find out how you can get involved.

About the survey

The WA Government has published a statewide survey to learn more about opportunities for children to play in WA.

We want to hear from people across the State so the WA Play Strategy reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences of the people and communities that shape children's everyday lives and opportunities to play.

Who the survey is open to

The survey is open to everyone, including:

  • Children aged up to 8 years with the support of trusted adults
  • Children and young people aged over 8 years
  • Parents, and carers
  • Community members
  • Professional whose work relates to play in any way from education, to health, transport, community, policy, planning, the arts, housing and more.

Helping young children to share their thoughts on play

With the support of a trusted adult helping them through the process, children up to eight years of age are encouraged to share what play means to them.

A Children's Toolkit has been developed to assist adults in helping young children share their views about play.

This Toolkit supports parents, carers, educators and other adults to listen to children in ways that are ethical, authentic and appropriate for their age and stage of development.

The aim is to hear children's ideas and experiences in their own words, actions, drawings and other forms of expression.

More resources to help children take part are available, including an easy-step guide to get started.

Visit the main survey landing page to learn more.

Starting the survey

To start the survey, visit the Help shape the WA Play Strategy page and select the category that best reflects the perspective you are responding from, such as a parent, educator or a child. You can complete the survey for more than one category.

The survey is open until 11 November 2026.
