It's time for aspiring young writers to start putting pen to paper for City of Darwin's 2023 Young Territory Author Awards.
Entries for the 33rd edition of the awards open today, and Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said City of Darwin was looking forward to seeing hundreds of entries from young people across the Territory.
"Last year we had more than 100 entries and we're hoping to eclipse that number in 2023," Mr Vatskalis said.
"The awards aim to develop literacy among young Territorians as well as getting young people to express themselves through story telling.
"Developing the capacity to write clearly is a valuable tool for every young person's future," Mr Vatskalis said.
Entries close 27 August 2023 to coincide with Book Week.
Between now and 27 August the NT Writers' Centre will run writing workshops for young people across the Northern Territory.
All entries become part of the Young Territory Author Collection housed at Casuarina Library, with some past winners developing a career in writing.
Prizes are up for grabs for individuals and schools, and winners will be announced at the Young Territory Author Awards Ceremony in Darwin in November.
The awards are open to young people 18 years and under residing in the Northern Territory at the time of entering the book.
