Youths Arrested After Training Centre Incident

Two youths have been arrested following an incident at the Adelaide Youth Training Centre at Cavan on Sunday night.

About 8pm on Sunday 6 September, police were called to the facility after reports that two youths had allegedly assaulted a staff member and were causing extensive damage within a section of the centre.

It will be alleged the pair armed themselves with makeshift weapons and assaulted a Youth Justice worker before barricading themselves in a room. Police will further allege the youths subsequently damaged property within the facility.

About 9.55pm, STAR Group officers entered the room and arrested both boys without further incident.

A 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy have each been charged with aggravated assault, property damage and aggravated affray.

Both youths were remanded in custody and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Monday 7 September.
