- State Budget 2026-27 funds additional 120 public hospital beds, as part of Cook Labor Government's commitment to deliver health and hospitals
- These new beds, based at St John of God Midland and Joondalup Health Campus, are some of the 900 beds being added to the system over the next four years
- This will mean more than 1,000 public hospital beds have been added to the system since 2021
- Additional beds are part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to expanding the health system to meet the demands of Western Australia's growing and ageing population
An additional 120 hospital beds will come online over the coming winter months, as part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to expanding our health system to ensure Western Australians can access the healthcare they need, when they need it.
Funding has been allocated through State Budget 2026-27 to bring additional beds online at Joondalup Health Campus and St John of God Midland.
Two floors at Joondalup Health Campus's new public block are in the final stages of construction, and due for commissioning in late next month, which will result in 60 additional beds.
An additional 60 beds and 3 surgical theatres at St John of God Midland will also change over from private to public, when the separate St John of God Midland Private Hospital opens.
The new private hospital is due to open in August, which will coincide with the transition ofthe existing private hospital beds and theatres to the public hospital in late August 2026.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"My government is focused on ensuring all Western Australians can access the healthcare we need, when we need it, by delivering for health and hospitals through State Budget 2026-27.
"By winter, we would have added more than 1,000 hospital beds to our public system since 2021, and increased the number of doctors and nurses in our health system by 36 per cent.
"With this funding in State Budget 2026-27, we're locking in more beds and more jobs, delivering more hospital capacity."
As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
"This is a significant boost to hospital capacity in our growing eastern and northern corridors.
"This funding is about making sure those beds are commissioned, staffed, and available to patients as quickly as possible.
"These beds are in addition to the 200 the Cook Labor Government made available to public patients this year through the 2026 Winter Strategy."
