When a First Nations young woman joins the Stars Foundation, they embark on a journey to discover who they are and what they want for their future.
More than 1,300 Stars Alumnae have benefitted from the Stars Foundation's mentorship programs since the charity established in 2015. Some have gone on to return as Mentors themselves to provide the same listening, trust and consistent support that shaped their own lives.
Now, with a $120,000 boost from The Lott by Tatts NT Community Fund, Stars Foundation is lighting the way for more First Nations young women to access holistic mentorship and unlock their full potential. This marks our eighth year of support, bringing total contributions to more than $820,000.
Stars Foundation Founder and CEO, Andrea Goddard, highlighted how building strong, trusting relationships within the Stars program helps young women engage at school and thrive beyond.
"Mentorship is a powerful tool in shaping the belief of First Nations young women. Not only do our girls feel safe, supported and listened to, but our Stars Mentors show them that they have choices, their voices matter, and they can dream bigger for their futures," Andrea Goddard said.
"Thanks to the funding support from The Lott by Tatts NT, Stars Foundation can ensure our holistic programs reach more girls, expand into more schools and provide consistent, long-term mentoring. This stability means we can focus on real outcomes, not just short-term fixes, for the 4,000 Stars students we are currently mentoring."
Senior Community Partnerships Manager for The Lott by Tatts, Liz McPherson, felt proud that this year's donation could help strengthen Stars Foundation in reaching more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
"It's incredibly rewarding to know we're helping Stars create a culturally safe, nurturing environment where young women have the support they need to succeed," she said.
For every Play For Purpose ticket you purchase in support of the Stars Foundation, you're helping more First Nations girls and young women make active choices about their future.
