$15 million investment for JackJumpers High Performance Training Facilities

Members,

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has committed a further $15 million to construct new JackJumpers high performance training facilities adjacent to MyState Bank Arena.

Importantly, the new training facilities will be developed within the new community Indoor Multi-Sport Facility, which will consolidate the team's already important community links and also provide additional facilities to be used by the community when they are not in use by the JackJumpers.

The training facilities will include additional court facilities, gymnasium, physio and recovery areas, medical and rehabilitation facilities and players' change rooms, kitchen and lounge facilities as well as meeting facilities.

This is a clear win/win for Tasmanian basketball at all levels and responds to the significant increase in participation in basketball by providing further additional facilities for community use. It will also provide long awaited permanent facilities for Tasmania's high achieving JackJumpers NBL team.

The Tasmanian Government has been a strong supporter of basketball in the State and this new $15 million investment will bring our government's contribution to the new Indoor Multi-Sport Facility to $49.7 million and our total commitment to the Wilkinsons Point site including the recently upgraded iconic MyState Bank Arena to around a significant $125 million.

Work to re-define the functional requirements and incorporate training facilities for the Tasmania JackJumpers into the community multi-sports facility is well advanced and will be finalised later this year to enable a development application for the project to be lodged with the Glenorchy City Council early in 2023 with an anticipated 18-month construction period.

Considerable work has already been progressed regarding the way in which the Multi-Sport Facility integrates with the broader Wilkinsons Point precinct to capture community benefits.

The Government will continue to fund investments that provide more elite sporting content for Tasmanians as well as increased participation of our young people in sport and also enabling them to aspire to play at the highest level on the national stage.

On the back of the success of the Tasmania JackJumpers, we eagerly await the decision by the AFL to grant Tasmania our long-awaited AFL licence which will provide another opportunity for our young people to aspire to represent Tasmania at the highest level.
