- Booraka Danjoo will assist vulnerable Western Australians experiencing rough sleeping to connect with services and transition into supported accommodation and housing
The Cook Labor Government is investing nearly $18 million in three Aboriginal-led homelessness outreach services to help people experiencing rough sleeping connect with accommodation, housing, and specialist support services across the Perth metropolitan area.
Karlup Aboriginal Corporation, i24S Aboriginal Corporation, and Nyoongar Outreach Services will deliver the new Booraka Danjoo service Coordinated Services Outreach model to the north-east, north-west, and central corridors of Perth respectively over the next five years.
The Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) were selected through a restricted expression of interest process which aligned with the Whole of Government ACCO Strategy to deliver culturally responsive and secure services that empower Aboriginal people.
The Booraka Danjoo service model is a rapid approach to identify, engage, and provide support to improve health and housing outcomes for people experiencing rough sleeping in the Perth metropolitan area. This involves engaging with and assessing individuals' needs to identify appropriate support, accommodation, and housing options.
Service delivery in the respective locations will commence from July 2026, as well as the announcement of the successful organisation delivering services in the southern corridor.
As stated by Homelessness Minister Matthew Swinbourn:
"This investment will ensure people experiencing chronic rough sleeping can access culturally secure support that helps them move into stable accommodation and housing.
"In line with the All Paths Lead to a Home: Western Australia's 10-Year Strategy on Homelessness 2020-2030, Booraka Danjoo will deliver culturally appropriate outreach and intensive support for people who are experiencing chronic rough sleeping and connect them directly with specialist support services to plan and support pathways out of homelessness.
"Targeted, evidence-based investment like this demonstrates the Cook Labor Government's commitment to delivering safe and inclusive communities across Western Australia."
