A 300-metre stretch of Southbank Promenade will soon be upgraded to create a more beautiful public space on the waterfront and deliver extra space for pedestrians and cyclists, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.
The $3.8 million project includes new bluestone paving, trees for shade, accessibility upgrades such as ramps and LED lighting between the Princes and Evan Walker bridges.
The Southbank Promenade upgrade is being funded with $3 million from the Melbourne City Recovery Fund - a partnership between the City of Melbourne the Labor Government. The City of Melbourne is delivering the project and providing an additional $800,000 in funding.
The City of Melbourne will ensure access to Southbank businesses and residential properties will be maintained throughout construction. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to travel along the Promenade, with cyclists asked to dismount while passing through the area.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year and, when complete, will offer a more attractive pedestrian experience for visitors and provide a boost for Southbank businesses.
