Spring is in the air! The buds on the trees are becoming more and more visible every day. The days are getting longer. It is such an exciting time of the year with promise of warmer weather and longer days.

The prospect of spring approaching, everyone's thoughts change to becoming more active and participating in outdoors events, enjoying the sunshine and our beautiful environment around Carisbrook and the greater Central Goldfield Shire.

This is an opportune time to share with you, that plans are in the works to host a Walking and Cycling Carnival in Carisbrook in March 2023. A date has not been determined yet. It will only be for one day, but promises to be an event full of excitement, interesting workshops and lots to do. The focus will be on showcasing the joys of cycling and walking and to engage people in the art of leisure walking.

The Carisbrook Walking and Cycling Carnival will take place in Carisbrook but will also engage groups and businesses from the wider area. This is an opportunity for volunteer groups to participate as it provides a unique opportunity for much needed fundraising.

As you are probably aware, the Castlemaine – Maryborough Rail Trail Inc. (CM.RT) is making huge progress in advocating for the creation of a rail trail between Castlemaine and Maryborough. This group is actively involved in organising the Walking and Cycling Carnival and put the idea forward at our recent Carisbrook Community Conversation meeting. A group of residents, myself and members of the CM.RT had our first meeting a week ago. The long-term vision and intention are that this will become an annual event on the social calendar of the Central Goldfields Shire into the future.

We intend to make this a community event for the community by the community. However, we are going to be heavily dependent on participation of all residents from Carisbrook and the wider community, either as volunteers and helpers on the day but also actively participating and supporting activities being planned. We need more volunteers to nominate to be on the committee organising the event.
