5-11 year old's now receiving their second doses

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

Tasmania continues to lead the way across the nation with 5–11-year-old vaccination rates.

More than 62.5 per cent of Tasmanians aged 5–11-year old's have now had their first dose – this is compared to the national average of 51.35 per cent.

Dose 2 program clinics for 5–11-year old's have now begun with more than 2,250 second dose vaccinations administered in the first weekend of the dose 2 rollout.

In a promising sign that parents are turning up again to ensure their children are fully protected against COVID, 20.1 per cent of 5–11-year old's are now fully vaccinated – more than double the national average which is 10.7 per cent.

Our Dose 2 clinics are accepting children still requiring their first dose, including walk-ins.

Our 5-11 vaccination program has been very accessible, but we want to see that figure continue to rise to ensure the best possible protection from COVID-19.

To continue boosting the vaccination rate even higher, in partnership with the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS), our regional school Program will see the RFDS in-reach to district high schools around the State offering vaccinations to students aged 5-18, or from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The Program will include schools right across the State, including:

  • George Town
  • Yolla
  • Penguin
  • Sheffield
  • Strahan
  • Queenstown
  • Zeehan
  • Rosebery
  • Lilydale
  • Winnaleah
  • St Helens
  • St Marys
  • Campbell Town
  • Oatlands
  • Bothwell
  • Ouse
  • Glenora
  • Campania
  • Triabunna
  • Sorell
  • Tasman
  • Dover
  • Woodbridge
  • Bruny Island

In addition to the regional school's Program, the RFDS will also target the West Coast and visit the following locations:

  • Strahan Primary School, 2 Bay St, Strahan - 29 March, 8:30am-3:30pm;
  • Service Tasmania, 9-13 Driffield St, Queenstown – 30 March, 8:30am-3:30pm and 31 March, 8:30am – 11:30am;
  • Zeehan Primary School, 7 Belstead St, Zeehan - 31 March, 1:00pm-3:30pm; and
  • Rosebery Neighbourhood House, 8 Agnes St, Rosebery - 1 April, 8:30am-12:30pm.

5-11 clinics have already been held in more than 30 locations statewide, and there are more than 60 GPs across Tasmania also delivering 5–11-year-old vaccinations.

For parents and carers of school-aged children who have not yet been vaccinated, our message is clear, please come forward and have your child vaccinated.

Vaccination will give your child the best possible protection against the severe effects of COVID-19, especially leading into the Winter respiratory illness season.
