Baw Baw Shire Council's application for a $500,000 funding boost has been successful. The funding, from the State Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, will support the construction of the brand-new multi-sport pavilion at Longwarry Recreation Reserve.
The new multi-sport pavilion will service football, netball, cricket and angling clubs at the Longwarry Recreation Reserve.
The project includes female-friendly player and umpire changerooms and amenities; first aid rooms; umpire facilities; public toilets; a social room with storage, kiosk and bar; shared office; cleaners' room, and undercover spectator areas.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson celebrated the funding boost by thanking the Victorian Government.
"This is another example of our strong advocacy efforts and how working in partnership with the Victorian Government achieves better outcomes for our community," she said.
"This is a huge step forward for this project and I am looking forward to seeing it get off the ground."
A Project Reference Group (PRG) has been created and led by Council for this project and involves representatives from Longwarry Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, Longwarry Football Netball Club, Longwarry Junior Football Club, Longwarry Cricket Club and the Longwarry Angling Club. Additional stakeholders include Sport & Recreation Victoria, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria, and Netball Victoria.
The PRG have been meeting regularly since the project's inception to work through the planning and design phase of the project. The project is currently scheduled to commence construction in December 2026 and is estimated to be completed by April 2028.
