80-year-old man injured in East Victoria Park

Cannington Detectives are seeking information regarding an incident that occurred in East Victoria Park early last night, Wednesday 23 July 2019, in which an 80-year-old man was injured.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm, the victim parked his gold 2008 model Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback, WA registration number 1CZD121, near rubbish bins located on Terminus Lane. He then started placing the bins along the kerb for collection and whilst doing this, the 80-year-old man saw an unknown woman described as being in her late 20s, with brown skin and shoulder length dark hair, looking through bins and acting suspiciously before she got into his vehicle.

The victim grabbed at her in an attempt to stop her stealing his car but she accelerated heavily, causing the 80-year-old man to lose his balance, fall backwards and hit the ground. The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment to a laceration across his eyebrow which required stitches, grazing and bruising to his right leg and knee. The Mitsubishi Lancer was last seen travelling along Terminus Lane towards Franklins Tavern.

Detectives are urging anyone who was in the area, or has dashcam footage of Terminus Lane, Albany Highway and Somerset Street around the above time, who saw the woman or the Mitsubishi Lancer to come forward.

Anyone with any information about this matter is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. People providing information to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous if they wish.
