There's one sport at The University of Texas at Arlington that hasn't been sidelined during the nationwide shutdown.
UTA's new esports team—which participates in competitive and organized video gaming—has continued to practice, play and win.
"We still have weekly practices and scrimmages," said Drew Boehm, coach in the esports division of Campus Recreation. "The tournaments and competitions are still ongoing, all online and streamed.
The Mavericks won the first-ever Electronic Gaming Federation Rocket League tournament and season, placing first after beating out the University of Delaware. They also placed second in the Collegiate League of Legends Tournament, losing to host UT Dallas after battling a tough field that included schools from around the country.
