Active transport champions recognised

  • Grassroots campaign to encourage sustainable transport gains momentum
  • Nine winners from metro and regional areas receive Your Move Awards
  • Town of Bassendean to become the latest local government to partner with Your Move

Local governments, workplaces, schools and individuals have been recognised at the 2018 Your Move Awards, celebrating the success and achievements of those championing active transport.

Participants in the Your Move program have been leading the charge in finding innovative ways to get their peers and community out of cars and walking, cycling and using public transport more often.

Your Move supports and encourages schools, local communities and workplaces to choose more active and sustainable travel options more often.

The program continues to grow with 53 workplaces, 21 local governments and 84 schools from metropolitan and regional areas across Western Australia now participating in Your Move.

The Department of Transport also partners with local governments to deliver a local intensive Your Move program which has been successfully rolled out to residents in Cockburn, Wanneroo and Victoria Park.

The next intensive Your Move program is currently being developed for rollout in the Town of Bassendean in early 2019.

The winners of the Your Move Awards below have been working tirelessly to inspire change by encouraging their workplace, school or local community to find more ways to get active and leave the car at home.

As noted by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"It's great to see the innovative and creative ways the award winners are helping to reduce car use in their communities and workplaces.

"The award winners show that starting with small things like creating a glow in the dark path, encouraging kids to walk or ride to school a few days a week, or providing SmartRiders and e-bikes for work trips, are great ways to help encourage people to swap some car trips for walking, cycling and catching public transport.

"This State Government is making active transport options more attractive for Western Australians through investment in walking, cycling and METRONET.

"Your Move plays an important role to make active travel choices easier. The program helps give people the tools, information and encouragement to use active transport more often, helping build more connected, healthier and environmentally friendly organisations and communities."
