The City of Ballarat has appointed its third round of Active Women and Girls Program Ambassadors since 2018.
Four ambassadors have been selected for the 2021-2022 Ambassador Program, all of whom are active Ballarat community members with a shared passion and interest in women and girls' sport and active recreation.
The ambassadors' role is to inspire, motive and support other Ballarat women and girls to not only get physically active but to feel confident about stepping into leadership roles in their sports club or active groups, to empower equal participation and champion positive role modelling.
The four key pillars identified for the Ambassador Program - participation, culture and environment, infrastructure, and media action - align with the vision and goals identified in the Active Women and Girls Strategy 2018-2021.
The four ambassadors are:
- Lucy Brennan (Participation Ambassador) - Ballarat Soccer Club president and an ambassador for females in soccer who wants to raise awareness of sporting opportunities for Ballarat women and girls
- Emma Maree Donald (Culture and Environment Ambassador) - Carngham-Linton Football Netball Club junior netball coach, athletics coach, and positive mental health advocate
- Kellie Britt (Infrastructure Ambassador) - AAA Sport Ballarat founder and president, Regional Sport Victoria Youth Advisory Council facilitator and passionate about supporting young people to play sport in safe and inclusive environments
- Kate Weadon (Media Action Ambassador) - Drummo Dragons Basketball Club secretary, Lake Wendouree Female Football Club volunteer and keen to promote physical activity opportunities and pathways.
City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor Cr Amy Johnson congratulated the four ambassadors, who will help empower, motivate, and inspire girls and women of all ages to get active.
"These ambassadors will continue our mission to remove barriers that may be constraining women and girls' involvement in sport or physical activity, either as leaders or participants," Cr Johnson said.
The ambassadors' profiles will feature on City of Ballarat social media channels, along with how they plan to approach their new roles.
Cr Johnson also acknowledged the significant contribution of the 2020-2021 ambassadors, including Melanie Robertson, Narelle Tolliday, Stephanie Mundy and Gail Weston, and wished them well for their future community active sport and recreation work.
