The Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments are getting on with delivering safer roads in Victoria's south-west, with a new overtaking lane near Terang now open to traffic.
The lane runs 1.9 kilometres on the Warrnambool-bound side of the Princes Highway, between Pontings Road and Spring Dam Road, east of Terang and gives drivers a safer option to overtake.
Works have also included drainage and pathway improvements as well as road resurfacing.
Another overtaking lane, stretching for 2.4 kilometres, is being built along the Princes Highway, east of Garvoc between Coombes Road and Ridge Road.
The project forms part of the Albanese Government's $322.9 million investment in the Princes Highway Corridor.
The Princes Highway is the backbone of the south-west, carrying locals, tourists and freight to Warrnambool and beyond.
The projects are being delivered by the Department of Transport and Planning, with $15.8 million in funding from the Australian Government and $1.7 million from the Victorian Government.
As stated by Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King:
"The Princes Highway is a vital link for communities and industries right across south-western Victoria - that's why we're building two new overtaking lanes to boost safety and provide better connections.
"These works are all about helping people and rural industry get to where they need to go as quickly and safely as possible."
As stated by Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Paul Hamer:
"We're investing in this crucial transport corridor and making it safer for the people who rely on it every day."
As stated by Senator for Victoria Raff Ciccone:
"These additional lanes will significantly improve productivity and efficiency for communities and freight operators who travel on this key corridor.
"Only Labor is getting on with delivering safer roads for Victoria's south-west."
As stated by State Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney:
"With works now complete, we've strengthened connections across Victoria's south-west - enabling safer journeys to meet the growing needs of our region."
As stated by State Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora:
"This is a major investment in our south-west, enabling faster, safer trips."
