Surf Coast Shire Council has backed Anglesea Art Space to see out the decade in its existing Great Ocean Road location.
Council resolved at its October meeting to seek a three-year extension on lease of the gallery building, to maintain its well-known place and role in the arts community.
Cr Mike Bodsworth: "Since its establishment in 2016, Anglesea Art Space has evolved into a powerhouse of creativity, particularly for people in the early stages of their artistic journeys.
"With the present lease coming up for renewal in 2027, Council took the opportunity to evaluate 13 art space alternatives looking at factors including cost, location, availability of space, alignment with Council principles and strategies, and the preferences of the Friends of Anglesea Art Space and other community members.
"Renewing a lease for Anglesea Art Space at its current location was identified as the strongest option.
"We look forward to it continuing to be a place where emerging and established artists alike from different disciplines can exhibit, work, connect with others, nurture skills, delight visitors and develop careers – right here in the heart of one of Australia's most creative regions.
"Supporting community art and culture, and creative industries to thrive are key priorities in our Council Plan, and the art space helps us to meet many of the objectives in our Creative Places Strategy."
Since its establishment the art space, at 2/103 Great Ocean Road, has consistently operated at full exhibition capacity.
During 2025-26, 17 exhibitions were staged involving 591 exhibitors.
Total attendances topped 8,279, artwork sales topped $97,811 and commissions and hirings topped $19,183.
