Aggravated assault in Alice Springs 7 July

Northern Territory Police are investigating an assault in Alice Springs last night that left a man with injuries requiring hospital treatment.

The 49-year-old man was at a food outlet in Todd Street, apparently in the company of another man and a woman, when an altercation broke out between the men.

The 49-year-old allegedly attempted to punch the other man, who returned one punch, knocking the first man to the ground and causing head injuries that are not considered serious. The man and the woman left the scene on foot.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Schumacher said, "Police have reviewed CCTV footage and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the offender."
