Aggravated Robbery in Perth

Perth Detectives have charged a 25-year-old man in relation to an incident in Perth yesterday afternoon, Saturday 27 July 2019, in which a 64-year-old woman was assaulted during a failed attempt to steal her vehicle.

Just before 3:00pm the woman approached her vehicle, which was parked on Hay Street, and as she unlocked the doors she was approached by man. It will be alleged the man approached her and pushed her to the ground while punching her to the face.

The man took possession of keys the woman was holding in her hand and attempted to steal the vehicle, however the attempt was unsuccessful as the car key had broken off the key chain in the struggle and the keys he was holding were not for the vehicle.

While the victim was calling out for help she used her key to lock the man inside the vehicle. A member of the public came to her assistance and filmed the man inside the vehicle.

The man managed to unlock the door and ran from the scene.

Police were called, and the City of Perth identified a person of interest on their CCTV system. His movements were tracked, with his location being provided to officers from Perth Police - who arrested him at the corner of Murray Street and Pier Street. He was taken to Perth Police Station where he was interviewed.

A 25-year-old man from Sorrento has been charged with Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Steal Motor Vehicle. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Sunday 28 July 2019.
