Allianz helps bat the blues in rural and remote Australia

Allianz Australia is proud to sponsor the 2018-19 Baggy Blues Cricket Tour of rural and remote NSW, with the next match taking place in Griffith on Thursday, 6 December.

The Twenty20 under lights match, which will feature some legends of NSW cricket and current stars, is the centrepiece of a campaign to raise mental health awareness as part of the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP).

The strong partnership between Allianz and the NSW Baggy Blues supports the RAMPH and major program funder the NSW Government to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, increase awareness of available mental health resources, and boost community spirit during this tough time for people living in regional and remote areas.

As part of the Baggy Blues Cricket tour, a number of cricket and mental health seminars will be held across rural and remote NSW. The Griffith leg of the tour includes three events open to the general public: a free breakfast and seminar, 'Smashing the Stigma for Six,' will be held at 7:30am on Thursday 6 December, followed by a junior coaching clinic at 4pm, and the main game at 6pm.

Allianz Australia Head of Regional and Rural, Brett Williams, said the initiative is a great demonstration of sport bringing rural communities together.

"Sponsoring the Baggy Blues Tour is a great way for us to support drought affected communities and at the same time raise awareness of mental illness and the resources available to support people during this difficult time."

"There is a strong correlation between physical activity and positive mental health outcomes so there is no better way to bring attention to this important topic than with a cricket match," Mr Williams said.

"Allianz Australia is sponsoring the teams' uniforms and supporting logistics on match day, and we are honoured to be involved in this great initiative. We encourage everyone to come along and take part in the events."

The tour has already visited Lismore and Dubbo will also roll in to Bega in the coming months.

The Baggy Blues is a non-profit organisation consisting of former NSW men and women cricketers who have a passion to develop and grow the game of cricket throughout the state.
