Ten AMA members have been recognised in today's King's Birthday Honours List in medical fields ranging from general practice, to ophthalmology, and remote and rural medicine.
AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen congratulated the members on this important recognition of their service, dedication and skills.
"All of the doctors in today's Honours List have played a vital role in delivering better healthcare for patients and have made an outstanding contribution to society," Dr McMullen said.
"These members have made an incredible contribution, going above and beyond to serve their communities."
Member of the Order of Australia (AM)
Dr Michael Steiner (NSW), a former member of the AMA Federal Council: For significant services to medicine in ophthalmology as a surgeon and to professional associations.
Professor Alistair Royse (Vic): For significant services to medicine as a cardiothoracic surgeon, researcher, educator and trainer.
Professor David Scott (Vic): For significant services to anaesthesia and pain medicine.
Dr David Law (Tas): For significant service to public health as a practitioner and in leadership roles.
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
Conjoint Associate Professor Mark Bloch (NSW): For services to medicine.
Professor Gerald Fogarty (NSW): For services to medical research.
Dr David Iser (Vic): For services to medicine as a general practitioner.
Associate Professor David Rimmer (Qld): For services to rural and remote medicine.
Public Service Medal (PSM)
Dr Lawrence Palmer (SA): For services to SA Health and general practice.
Associate Professor Carol Douglas (Qld): For services to the Queensland Palliative Care Training Program.
