Appeal for assistance after man assaulted - Lidcombe

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted in Sydney's west overnight.

About 10.30pm yesterday (Sunday 3 January 2021) officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command responded to reports of a possible assault outside a petrol station on Vaughan Street, Lidcombe.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with a serious head injury. He was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma.

After viewing CCTV at the scene, police established the man was involved in a physical altercation with another man, who drove him body first into the concrete.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of their inquiries, officers wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their investigation.

The man is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 30 years of age, medium build, with short black hair.

He was last seen in Vaughan Street wearing a black jumper, cream coloured shorts, white shoes with a black surgical mask.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
