Appeal to identify people after incidents at protest in Melborune

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit are investigating several incidents, including assaults on police and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) and the release of flares during a protest in Melbourne's CBD on Thursday night.

Police have been told a flare was released by a man at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston streets about 8.15pm.

The man police believe can assist with their enquiries is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and aged in his 30s. He was seen wearing a black hooded jumper, dark-coloured pants and white sneakers. He was also seen wearing a Guy Fawkes mask.

An image of a woman has also been released, who police believe can assist with the investigation into a bottle being thrown at police officers.

Investigators have been told a bottle was thrown towards police officers, striking one officer and causing minor injuries.

The woman police want to speak to in relation to this incident is perceived to be Caucasion in appearance, aged in her 20s, wearing a black jacket, pink top and light-coloured pants. She was seen wearing a red cap, believed to have the phrase 'Make America Great Again' on it and was carrying a large black speaker.
