Applications open for $15,000 Aboriginal Teaching Scholarships

Applications have opened for the third round of the Territory Labor Government's Aboriginal teaching scholarships, to encourage Aboriginal Territorians to pursue their dreams of a career in education.

The Territory Labor Government promised 500 extra Aboriginal people would be employed in frontline service roles, such as teaching, nursing and policing, by 2026, to better reflect the Northern Territory population.

About 40 per cent of Northern Territory school students are Aboriginal.

The 2020 Teaching – Growing Our Future Scholarships provide successful applicants with up to $15,000 per year to complete an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in the Northern Territory.

Eligible students must be enrolled either full time or part time in either the undergraduate Bachelor of Education or postgraduate Master of Teaching at Charles Darwin University in 2020.

This is the third time the scholarships have been offered. There are 20 scholarships to be awarded.
