  • Western Australian firm appointed to design new Wyndham District High School facilities
  • Works anticipated to begin mid-2021
  • Project part of the WA Recovery Plan Major School Upgrade package
  • Western Australian architectural firm Saleeba Adams, which has experience in Kimberley construction projects, has been appointed to design $3 million worth of new facilities for Wyndham District High School.

The project will see the school, which is located in Western Australia's far north east, receive a new two-room building, containing a Kindergarten/Pre-primary classroom and a general classroom.

Landscaping work will be carried out near the early childhood area. In addition, an old transportable classroom will be demolished.

Consultation with the school community about the project will begin in early Term 4, 2020. Construction works are anticipated to begin in mid-2021.

Wyndham District High School has 111 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The project is part of the Major School Upgrade package, totalling $492.2 million, which includes $319.2 million of new funding for upgrades and refurbishments at 63 public schools around the State.

Works in the package will be carried out over the next four years, and will include major additions to burgeoning secondary schools, new sports halls, classrooms, specialist facilities and refurbishments.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"This significant package of work will see ageing infrastructure at our public schools upgraded, to create top rate learning spaces for WA students.

"Our comprehensive WA Recovery Plan will help drive economic and social recovery across the State, and create a pipeline of jobs for Western Australians."

As stated by Kimberley MLA Josie Farrer:

"I strongly believe newer modern facilities at Wyndham District High School in the Kimberley will create a sense of unity within the students as well as great opportunities for learning."

"This continues the strong investment into schools across the region by the McGowan Government."
