  • Silver Thomas Hanley appointed as lead architect for the Bentley Health Service Surgicentre
  • Project will expand elective surgery capacity to ensure Western Australians can access the care they need, when and where they need it
  • New facility to include six operating theatres, two procedure rooms, a 24-bed surgical ward, a central sterilisation services department, and purpose-built support areas and clinical spaces

The Cook Government's expansion of Bentley Health Service is moving ahead with Silver Thomas Hanley Architecture appointed as lead architectural consultant for the new Bentley Health Service Surgicentre.

The appointment marks the beginning of the design phase of the project.

A team of specialist subconsultants will join the lead architect in areas such as civil and structural engineering, mechanical, hydraulics and electrical services, and landscape architecture.

The new Bentley Health Service Surgicentre will boost elective surgery, reducing the demand on other hospitals and servicing the eastern suburbs.

Once complete, the purpose-built facility will include six operating theatres, two procedure rooms, a 24-bed surgical ward, a central sterilisation services department, and supporting infrastructure.

Forward and site preparation works are planned to commence in 2026.

The $167 million Bentley Health Service Surgicentre is jointly funded by the State and Federal governments and is part of the Cook Government's $4.9 billion investment in health infrastructure across Western Australia.

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"This appointment marks the beginning of the design phase for the Bentley Health Service Surgicentre, a facility that will be built specifically to change how we deliver elective surgery in Perth.

"With six operating theatres, two procedure rooms, and a 24-bed surgical ward, the new Bentley Health Service Surgicentre will deliver elective surgery separate from emergency care delivered at other hospitals.

"It's part of our record $4.9 billion spend to upgrade, expand, and build new health facilities across the State."

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"The Bentley Health Service Surgicentre will make a real difference for patients who need planned surgery, while reducing pressure on emergency departments.

"This project aims to improve the patient experience and support clinicians with the right environment to provide excellent care.

"By investing in facilities like this, we are creating a stronger health system that ensures Western Australians can access the care they need when and where they need it."

As stated by Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas:

"The Albanese Labor Government is working closely with the Cook Labor Government to cut waiting times forelectivesurgeries and improve access to care, locally.

"The appointment of an architect is an important step forward in delivering this important expansion of Bentley Health Service."

As stated by Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley:

"It's fantastic to see an architect appointed for a project that will make a big difference to access to healthcare in my local area.

"As the member for Victoria Park, I will continue to advocate for this project, which will transform surgical care at Bentley Health Service and provide the quality healthcare our community needs."

As stated by Cannington MLA Ron Sao:

"This project will improve access to care locally and ensure more services are available outside of a hospital setting.

"It's great to see this project reach an important milestone, with an architect now appointed to design the expansion."
