Global law firm Ashurst Perkins Coie advised the Taiping asset management team in Hong Kong on two significant innovation and technology fund transactions in Hong Kong, reinforcing the firm's breadth of experience and depth of involvement in the investment funds and innovation sector across the region.
Victoria Harbour Nexus Innovation LPF
The firm represented Taiping Assets Management (Hong Kong) as both co-investment manager and investor, in connection with Taiping's subscription in Victoria Harbour Nexus Innovation LPF (the "Fund"), which successfully closed on 30 July 2026.
Victoria Harbour Nexus Innovation LPF is the first fund to complete fundraising under the Hong Kong SAR Government's optimized Innovation and Technology Venture Fund (ITVF) scheme, and the first fund established in partnership with mainland Chinese institutions under the optimized scheme. The Fund is established in Hong Kong as a Hong Kong limited partnership fund, with a total fund size of HKD 600 million. The Fund focuses on AI and big data, advanced manufacturing and new energy, and life sciences and health technology.
Taiping GBA Inno-Tech Limited Partnership Fund - Cyberport strategic cooperation
The firm also acted for Taiping Assets Management (Hong Kong) in connection with Cyberport joining the Taiping GBA Inno-Tech Limited Partnership Fund to form a strategic cooperation, which successfully closed on 3 August 2026.
Hong Kong Cyberport is the city's digital technology hub and AI accelerator. Its participation as a strategic partner in the innovation fund reflects confidence and support for the fund's role in promoting the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology industry and ecosystem. The fund is co-managed by Taiping Assets Management (HK) Company Limited and BOCOM International Asset Management Limited, and focuses on investing in technology enterprises with high-growth potential from a Hong Kong lens.
Commenting on the transactions, lead counsel Roger Dong commented:
"We are pleased to have advised the Taiping Hong Kong assets management team on these two transactions, both of which represent meaningful developments for Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem. The Victoria Harbour Nexus Innovation LPF is a milestone as the first fund to complete fundraising under the optimized ITVF scheme, and the Cyberport strategic cooperation further demonstrates the growing institutional support for Taiping's platform. These engagements reflect the depth of experience our team brings to investment funds work in Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area."
Both transactions were led by counsel Roger Dong and supported by senior consultant Dean Moroz. Associate Ernest Yim assisted the team on Victoria Harbour Nexus Innovation LPF while the Taiping GBA Inno-Tech Limited Partnership Fund transaction was supported by associate Ming Choong. Partner Alastair Ladkin advised on the tax aspects of both transactions, assisted by associate Christopher Phillips.
These transactions highlight Ashurst Perkins Coie's continued strength in advising on investment fund formations, structuring, and investor arrangements in Hong Kong, particularly those aligned with the city's innovation and technology policy objectives.
