Australia Appoints New Ambassador To Estonia 30 November

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Edmund Mortimer as Australia's next Ambassador to the Republic of Estonia.

Australia and Estonia share a commitment to democratic values, protecting human rights, gender equality, cyber security, defending the rules-based international order and trade liberalisation.

Our two countries work together to strengthen the multilateral system and to support global security, including through Australia's defence cooperation with NATO.

As an innovative approach to extending Australia's diplomatic network, our Embassy in Tallinn operates at intervals to support Australia's involvement in high-level events and other engagement opportunities, while maintaining a virtual presence at other times.

Mr Mortimer is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and has previously served overseas in France and Poland.

I thank former Ambassador Mr Sridhar Ayyalaraju for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Estonia since 2023.
