RMIT has launched a new joint PhD program with BITS Pilani and Telangana Life Sciences.
The new program will provide research and study pathways, and drive innovation and workforce capability, responding to global challenges.
The announcement was made at a roundtable event hosted in Hyderabad, with representatives from higher education, industry and government, including BITS Group Vice-Chancellor Professor V Ramgopal Rao and Telangana Life Sciences CEO Dr Sarvesh Singh.
RMIT University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron participated in a ceremonial exchange that reaffirmed the India-Australia relationship and the institutions shared commitment to partner on research and education outcomes.
"Our collaboration with BITS Pilani reflects this commitment and a collective belief in the power of research and education to improve lives," Professor Cameron said.
"Together, we're developing the workforce and leaders of the future, and working alongside industry and government to address the complex challenges facing our societies.
"And by bringing together academic expertise and industry insight, we can accelerate the application of research, strengthen workforce capability, and contribute to economic and societal outcomes in both Australia and India."
During his visit to India, Professor Cameron joined Deputy Vice-Chancellor Design and Social Context and Vice-President Tim Marshall, Consul-General in Mumbai Paul Murphy and Asia Society India Centre CEO Inakshi Sobti at an event celebrating First Nations culture and creative industries.
The event featured RMIT alum and First Nations Fashion + Design founder and creative director Grace Lillian Lee.
