Australia-Indonesia Institute Grant Outcomes 22 May

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

I am pleased to announce the recipients of the Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) 2025-26 grants program.

Australia and Indonesia share a close partnership and friendship, based on the Australia-Indonesia Treaty on Common Security and our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Established in 1989, the AII aims to promote mutual understanding and drive deeper community engagement between Australia and Indonesia.

Through this grant round, the AII continues Australia and Indonesia's long history of friendship and cooperation through practical collaboration in areas including education, culture, climate resilience, economic cooperation, health and sport.

Grant recipients include:

  • The Hunter Innovation and Science Hub Inc (NSW), which aims to build STEM and clean energy skills through a school-based Solar Car Challenge, including public Solar Car Festivals across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Java.
  • The University of Adelaide (SA) and University of Indonesia, which will promote urban heritage conservation through the application of digital tools and artificial intelligence.
  • Monash University Indonesia, which will work to strengthen inclusive health and aged-care practices for people living with dementia.
  • Dromana College's (VIC), which will work with nine Victorian primary schools to deliver an Indonesian cultural immersion program focusing on language, art and dance.
  • The University of Tasmania (TAS), which will deliver a three week training program to improve climate-resilient fisheries management in Banda Aceh, in partnership with Universitas Syiah Kuala.

A full list of successful grant recipients is available on the Australia-Indonesia Institute site.
