Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Jenny McAllister is travelling to Germany to represent Australia at the 14th Petersberg Climate Dialogue, taking place in Berlin on 2-3 May 2023.
Assistant Minister McAllister said it was an important event to engage with ministers from major economies and our region to support a successful outcome at the annual UN climate conference (COP28) in Dubai this December.
During the 3-day visit, Assistant Minister McAllister will participate in high-level political discussions on global energy transitions and adaptation action and co-facilitate discussions on new funding arrangements to address loss and damage arising from climate change impacts.
Assistant Minister McAllister said she was also looking forward to strengthening Australia's relationships with key international counterparts and showcasing Australia's renewed climate leadership, including the recent passage of the reforms to the Safeguard Mechanism.
While in Germany, Assistant Minister McAllister will also meet with senior German government and industry leaders to advance our cooperation on energy efficiency and hydrogen.
Assistant Minister McAllister said, "Australia's participation in the Petersberg Climate Dialogue shows that under the Albanese Government we are once again a trusted partner on climate action."
Since its inception in 2010, the annual Petersberg Climate Dialogue has facilitated the opportunity for Ministers to hold dynamic and constructive exchanges on key climate and energy issues to support the delivery of strong outcomes at the annual, end of year UN international climate conferences.
The Dialogue is co-hosted by Germany and the incoming UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) President, which for 2023 is the United Arab Emirates.
