Australia's Trap Team Women close out World Championships Campaign with Bronze Medal

Australia's Trap Team Women of Catherine Skinner, Laetisha Scanlan, and the returning Penny Smith closed out their ISSF World Championships campaign with a bronze medal on Friday.

The trio scored 202/225 in qualification placing 4th, qualifying for the bronze medal match where they would face the People's Republic of China.

In the final, Australia's Trap Team women reached 6 points to the People's Republic of China's 4 to claim the bronze medal for Australia.

Earlier in the week, Penny Smith had withdrawn from the individual Trap Women qualification due to a medical issue and did her best to recover in time for the Team event, with Smith adding "It's been a bit of a rough week for me but I was pretty determined to get out here with Teash and Catherine today and give it our best shot and that we did so I'm really proud of them."

Talking about qualification, Skinner added "I think we started off pretty strong but then it got a bit challenging there, but we pulled it together and we just got enough targets."

On the final, Scanlan added "I think everyone held their own and I guess we hit the targets when they needed to be hit, so I'm really happy that we came away with the bronze medal today."

The World Championships campaign is now over for the Australian Trap Team, and the athletes are looking forward to returning to Australia. Skinner mentioned missing her own bed, with Smith wanting "a bit of a break and return to normality", and Scanlan saying "I think just having no bugs at home."

Australia's involvement in the ISSF World Championships has not come to an end yet, with Australian Olympic Skeet Shooter Aislin Jones on her way to Osijek, Croatia to compete in the Women's Skeet event that begins on Friday.
