MidCoast Council's Libraries team will welcome local author and engineer, Greg Blaze to chat about his latest book at Forster Library on 22 March.

Greg's book There are no waves in Palestine, is based on tales from his time working and living in Jerusalem, the holiest city on earth, after he took up an engineering position with the United Nations.

Greg began writing as a way of being able to share weird and wonderful experiences that he had encountered when working as a humanitarians engineer in the war town country of Somalia.

He is a natural storyteller and his tales convey unusual and humorous accounts of wild adventures in remote locations.

"Greg is a great storyteller and whether you're religious or not, his retelling of life in Jerusalem, the conflict and contradiction, will have you enthralled," said Chris Jones, Manager of MidCoast Council Libraries.

This is a true story that follows Greg as he provides engineering consulting assistance to the relief agency for Palestinian refugees, building schools and hospitals in the West Bank.

"This is a 'warts and all' observation from Greg and the reader is taken along on this adventure that is as far removed from his life in Australia as you could possibly get, so I'm really looking forward to hearing him discuss it in real life," added Chris.

Greg's interviews with locals of all persuasions displays the fractured nature of thinking from opposite groups, and the massive hurdles still to be overcome if there is ever to be peace in the Middle East.

Greg was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for 'Services to Civil Engineering' in 2018.

He was born and bred in the steel city of Newcastle and currently resides on the MidCoast.

The event at Forster Library will run from 2pm to 3pm on Monday 22 March.

If you'd like to listen to Greg and hear all about his adventures, tickets are free and bookings are essential.
