Back to school - look out for little ones!

School's back for Term 3 on 20 July - and that means little people are out and about around Territory schools.

School zones have a speed limit of 40km/h and are generally in force between 7am and 5pm.

Senior Sergeant John Ginnane said, "Our interstate visitors may not be aware that school zones are in effect all day on school days, and not just at pick-up and drop-off times.

"Visitors should also be aware that school hours differ in the Territory - our junior pedestrians are active much earlier than they are interstate.

"Kids don't have the same awareness of their surroundings as adults. It's up to all road users to keep our kids safe and be prepared for the unexpected."

Police take a zero tolerance approach to speeding in school zones. Police will also target other unsafe driving practices in school zones, including mobile phones, parking and obstructing crossings.
