Backing Infrastructure For Our Chinese Communities

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is continuing to support Victoria's vibrant multicultural communities - delivering funding to Chinese community organisations so they can build and upgrade the spaces that bring people together.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt recently visited the Bright Moon Buddhist Temple in Springvale South to announce the latest recipients of the Chinese Community Infrastructure Fund - with nine organisations to share in more than $2 million in funding.

The fund supports the delivery of safe, accessible and culturally appropriate spaces for Chinese Victorians to connect, celebrate and preserve traditions.

The Bright Moon Buddhist Temple received more than $330,000 to upgrade its facility at 536-540 Springvale Road to support the construction of traditional Buddhist temple-style walls and gate.

Other projects funded across the state include:

  • construction of an underground car park at Avalokitesvara Yuan Tong Monastery in Deer Park
  • lighting upgrades at the Museum of Chinese Australian History in the City of Melbourne
  • courtyard improvements at the Chinese Association of Victoria in Wantirna.

The fund is part of the Labor Government's $40 million Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund - an election commitment to build, upgrade and renovate community infrastructure for multicultural and multifaith communities across Victoria.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested more than $96 million to deliver over 590 multicultural infrastructure projects, benefitting thousands of Victorians and strengthening the connections that underpin our diverse communities.
