Narrandera Shire Council is proud to continue its support for one of the region's most iconic and beloved events, the Barellan Good Old Days Festival, returning Friday 3 to Sunday 5 October at the Barellan Showground.
Held over the October long weekend, the festival is a true celebrations of Australia's pioneering spirit, blending hands on heritage experiences with grassroots community pride, and drawing thousands of visitors from across the state and beyond.
This year's events will bring together working draught animals, vintage farm machinery, bush skills demonstrations, and a packed schedule of live displays and entertainment. It's raw, authentic, and proudly rural, offering a genuine look into Australia's agricultural past and present.
Festival goers can expect everything from bullock-drawn ploughs and hand milking, to butter churning, blacksmithing, whip making, and sheepdog trials. There's even a record-breaking attempt featuring the greatest number of draught horses in harness pulling a wool wagon, a spectacle that highlights the skills and strength of the region's historic teamsters.
Adding even more character to the weekend is the return of the Furphy Festival, showcasing re-barelling demonstrations, historic collectables, and the iconic Furphy water carts that once kept rural Australia moving.
There will also be kids' games, traditional competitions, live bush poetry, camp oven cooking, market stalls, local food, and onsite camping and glamping options for the full weekend experience.
Mayor Neville Kschenka said the Good Old Days Festival is an example of regional resilience, tradition, and community collaboration.
"The Good Old Days Festival not only preserves and promotes our agricultural heritage, it brings our community together and provides a positive economic and tourism boost for Barellan and the wider Shire," said Mayor Kschenka.
"Councli is proud to support this unique event and acknowledges the incredible work of local organisers, volunteers, and sponsers who bring the festival to life each year."
