Battery of the Nation

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy

Hundreds of jobs are expected to be created at UPC Renewables Robbins Island and Jim's Plain windfarms as a result of this week's announcement that the Australian Government will partner with the Hodgman Liberal Government to support the accelerated delivery of Marinus Link.

I met with UPC Renewables today to brief them on the exciting developments on the second interconnector and Battery of the Nation projects.

This week's announcement gives UPC Renewables more confidence to progress their Robbins Island and Jim's Plain windfarms in the North West of Tasmania to their full potential of over 1000MW and an additional wind farm project of up to 1200MW in the North East.

These developments combined could see more than $3 billion invested and create over 400 direct jobs during construction and 120 permanent jobs ongoing.

In total, the Battery of the Nation and second interconnector projects have the potential to deliver Tasmania billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs, particularly in regional areas.

Tasmania has what the rest of the nation needs, and the Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to using this advantage to ensure all Tasmanians continue to see low cost, reliable and clean energy in their homes and businesses.

The Australian Government's commitment is a clear acknowledgement of the importance of Tasmania's energy solutions and our status as the leading energy state.
