Beach Life, a touring exhibition celebrating the coastal works of acclaimed Australian artist Nicholas Harding, is now on display at Tweed Regional Gallery from 28 August to 22 November 2026.
Opening at Murwillumbah before touring to Glasshouse Port Macquarie and Manly Art Gallery & Museum, the exhibition offers local audiences a rare opportunity to experience an important body of work drawn from the private collection of the Nicholas Harding Estate.
Featuring expressive oil paintings, watercolours and ink drawings, Beach Life explores Harding's deep connection to the coastal landscapes and beach culture of New South Wales. Through his distinctive painterly style and richly textured surfaces, Harding transformed familiar seaside scenes into powerful reflections on Australian identity, memory and place.
For Tweed Regional Gallery, hosting the exhibition represents a significant opportunity to bring the work of one of Australia's most respected contemporary artists to the region.

"Nicholas Harding spent time, on a number of occasions, working in the Gallery's Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio. He was here for the launch of the Margaret Olley Memorial Garden, and his work is featured in our collection. Through his time spent here, we enjoyed a great connection to Nicholas and his practice. This exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate his life through his greatest legacy – his art."
Drawn from the Nicholas Harding Estate's private collection, the exhibition showcases the breadth of Harding's artistic practice and highlights his remarkable ability to capture fleeting moments with emotional depth and technical mastery.
Known for his thickly layered impasto paintings and expressive mark-making, Harding was one of Australia's most celebrated artists. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he was a regular finalist in the nation's most prestigious art prizes, winning both the Archibald Prize and Dobell Drawing Prize in 2001 and the Wynne Prize in 2022.
His work is held in major Australian collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Portrait Gallery and Art Gallery of South Australia.
The exhibition also offers visitors the opportunity to engage more deeply with Harding's artistic process. Twenty original ink drawings featured in the exhibition will be available for purchase, while selected coastal paintings will be offered as limited-edition prints through the Gallery Shop.
