Belmont Market is booming

Spirits are high at The Belmont Market after a bumper start to summer.

Two market days were at capacity in December, marking the first time since 2017 that all 271 stalls have been manned.

January is also booming, with bookings up 30 per cent on last year.

The Belmont Market has been a weekly fixture of the Geelong community calendar for 50 years.

Held on Sunday mornings, small-scale traders from across the region offer new and pre-loved clothing, jewellery, accessories, fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and flowers, handmade crafts and other treasures.

Since taking on the management of the market in 2006, the City of Greater Geelong has worked hard to enhance the experience for stallholders and visitors.

This has been achieved by creating an easy and affordable stall booking process, carefully curating a balance of quality offerings, and encouraging a safe and inviting atmosphere.

The market has welcomed stallholders from the Geelong Showgrounds Market, which closed in September.

Organisers have also linked the strong numbers to festive season positivity, fine weather and a growing preference for supporting local growers, makers, producers and creators.

The Belmont Market is on 8am-1pm every Sunday at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre site, 1 Barwon Heads Road, Belmont.

Stall bookings are accepted two weeks prior to each market date.
