MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Edward Berenson, professor and chair of the history department at New York University, will present a lecture based on his 2019 book, "The Accusation: Blood Libel in an American Town." The event will be held via webinar at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
His book is about a rare instance of blood libel in the United States that happened in Massena, New York in 1928 when a child went missing and the local Jews were blamed. Blood libel is the centuries-old anti-Semitic myth that accused Jews of murdering Christian children for religious rituals (or to use their blood to make Passover matzo).
Berenson is a cultural historian specializing in the history of modern France and its empire, with additional interests in the history of Britain, the British Empire, and the United States.
