More than $23,000 was raised at the sixth annual Camden Council International Women's Day Gala, with funds going to support the work of local organisation, Big Yellow Umbrella.

This year's main beneficiary, Big Yellow Umbrella, will use the funds to provide local women with volunteering opportunities, accredited work placements through Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partnerships, and pathways that foster confidence, independence, and long-term opportunity.

The night was headlined by Australian broadcaster, tennis analyst, former professional player and public speaker Jelena Dokic, who delivered the keynote address. Guests also enjoyed a two-course meal and drinks, a Mayoral address, the presentation of the Camden Woman of the Year Award and valuable networking opportunities.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, praised the success of the evening.

"Big Yellow Umbrella is an incredibly worthy organisation," Cr Fedeli said.

"Based in Narellan, it provides services, programs and activities to meet the needs of all sectors of our local community. The organisation is committed to strengthening and enriching the community by connecting people with local services, activities, and each other.

"As always, it was inspiring to be in a room full of strong, dedicated women. Hearing everyone share their stories and experiences was truly powerful. I am proud to celebrate the incredible women in our community and acknowledge the important and influential roles they play every day."

The event, which was held on Thursday 5 March, 5.30-9pm, at Camden Civic Centre, honoured International Women's Day by celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world.

Observed annually on 8 March, International Women's Day also serves as a global call to action to accelerate gender equality. Each year, communities, organisations and advocacy groups worldwide unite to celebrate women's achievements and rally for progress.

This year's theme was #GiveToGain, which looked to emphasise the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organisations and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.

The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, including:

  • Platinum Sponsor - Baba's Milk;
  • Gold Sponsors - Camden Golf Club, Momenta Books and White Lady Funerals; and
  • Silver Sponsors - Fox & Co Finance , Politech Air Conditioning Services, Maverick Supports, Belong Ability Hub and Coutts Lawyers and Conveyancing.
