Why Leave Town Program Upgrade to Benefit Bland Shire Businesses
Bland Shire businesses and residents will soon benefit from an exciting upgrade to the Why Leave Town (WLT) Shop Local program, making it easier than ever for the community to support local businesses.
The Shop Local card is transitioning to a new chip-enabled gift card, allowing it to be used just like a standard EFTPOS card. The upgraded card will work on any EFTPOS terminal or Square device, making transactions simple and seamless for participating businesses.
Local businesses across Bland Shire are encouraged to sign up and become part of the program. There is no cost to participate, and businesses will be included on the official list of Why Leave Town Shop Local card merchants, helping attract more local spending.
Bland Shire Mayor Brian Monaghan said the program is an important way to keep money circulating within the community.
"Supporting local businesses is vital for the strength of our towns and villages," Mayor Monaghan said.
"The Shop Local program makes it easy for residents to spend their money locally, which helps keep our shops open, supports local jobs and strengthens our local economy.
"A vibrant shopping area also encourages new businesses to open their doors in our community, which benefits everyone."
Residents will also benefit from the upgrade, with more businesses able to accept the Shop Local card once they have signed up.
The Shop Local gift card is also a great present idea for those hard-to-buy-for friends and family members, giving recipients the freedom to choose what they want while supporting Bland Shire businesses at the same time.
Looking ahead, the West Wyalong Visitor Information Centre, located within the Bland Shire Council building, will soon become an official Shop Local card load-up location, making it even easier for residents and visitors to purchase and recharge cards locally.
Businesses interested in joining the program or learning more are encouraged to contact Marina at Bland Shire Council on 6972 2266
